Since 1992, AZGS StateMap awards have totaled $3,211,314; StateMap funds are matched dollar for dollar by State funds, bringing the total to over $6,000,000. January 24, 2011 | The Arizona Geological Survey has opened a branch office in Phoenix. Nyal Niemuth, formally Chief Mining Engineer at the Dept. of Mines and Mineral Resources, will serve as interim branch chief. The Geological Survey's two existing geologists in the Phoenix area will move into the former ADMMR facilities at 1520 W. Adams St. to join the five ADMMR staff who transferred to the Survey when ADMMR was shut down on January 21.

January 21, 2011 | Mines Department Update – The Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) will take custody of the Arizona Dept. of Mines and Mineral Resources' (ADMMR) files and facilities and keep them open until the Legislature acts on Governor Brewer's proposal to consolidate the two agencies. Additionally, 5 of the 6 ADMMR employees (3 full time and 2 part time) will be transferred to the Arizona Geological Survey. The agreement between the two agencies is subject to final approval by the ADMMR Board, which is meeting today at 4 pm to vote on it.

07.09.07 | Geothermal energy scoping meeting for Arizona: The Bureau of Land Management and the US Forest Service will hold a public scoping meeting in Phoenix on July 11, 2007 as one of 10 meetings across the western US, in advance of preparing a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for their geothermal land leasing project. AZGS opens Phoenix office | Arizona Geological Survey has opened a branch office in Phoenix, to better address the needs of the state’s largest metropolitan area. The office will initially focus on natural hazards, especially earth fissures, and groundwater resources. The office is housed at the Arizona Dept. of Mines and Mineral Resources, 1502 W.
