<description><![CDATA[The person in this position serves as the Budget and Accounting Officer for the Agency (35 employees, $10 million annual budget, headquartered in Tucson with a branch in Phoenix) and will oversee all fiscal activities including state and federal accounting; procurement; budget preparation and tracking; approval of internal financial systems and processes; assist in preparing funding proposals; preparation of statistical, financial and other reports; oversee the daily, monthly and end-of-fiscal year reconciling of funds; guidance and assistance to agency and project managers; preparation and negotiation of indirect rate agreements. Responsible for any audits the agency may face. Reports to the Chief Administrative Officer. Oversees an accounting assistant. The Arizona Geological Survey has moved to being mostly self-funded through contracts and grants. AZGS is a highly regarded scientific agency with statewide responsibilities and national and international projects and reputation. The agency is growing at an unprecedented rate and took over the AZ Dept. of Mines & Mineral Resources effective July 1, 2011. We are looking for a budgeting and accounting leader who can mesh the stability of a state-based system with the culture of entrepreneurship and innovation. ]]></description>
