The Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) is Arizona’s Earth science agency. We are responsible for mapping, evaluating, and informing the public regarding Arizona’s geologic setting. In order to meet this charge, we employ an interdisciplinary team of educated professionals that includes geologists, hydrologists, geomorphologists, petroleum geologists, natural hazard specialists, GIS specialists, web developers, and science outreach and administrative personnel.

Job Summary: The Arizona Geological Survey is seeking a Budget Manager in Tucson. Bring your budget and fiscal operations expertise to an exciting, entrepreneurial medium-sized State Agency that serves as Arizona’s premier science agency and a world leader in digital technology!  This is a unique opportunity to combine your knowledge with your ability to provide exceptional service in a fast-moving environment.

You will be responsible for leading fiscal operations, including developing and maintaining all budget, accounting, treasury, and cash functions. Your analysis of a variety of financial information will provide direction and support to maximize use of funds and ensure overall operations are within budget. You will maintain manual and electronic fiscal information, files, and records to provide an up-to-date reference and audit trail. In addition, you will be responsible for monitoring budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances, and related financial activities to ensure that allocations are accurate, revenue is recorded, expenses are within budget limits, and/or fiscal practices are followed. The Budget Manager also prepares annual budgets, financial statements, reports for Section Chiefs and the Governor’s Office, and reports on external funding sources.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The Budget Manager position requires exceptional verbal and written communications skills. You must be an expert in Microsoft Excel, have excellent customer service skills, and have the ability to work independently while managing time and deadlines professionally.

Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field preferred. 3-5 years of similar and progressively responsible experience preferred. Prefer candidates with knowledge of OMB Circular A-87 and A-133.
