The Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) is Arizona’s Earth science agency. We are responsible for mapping, evaluating, and informing the public regarding Arizona’s geologic setting. In order to meet this charge, we employ an interdisciplinary team of educated professionals that includes geologists, hydrologists, geomorphologists, petroleum geologists, natural hazard specialists, GIS specialists, web developers, and science outreach and administrative personnel.

Assistant Web Developer and Graphic Artist
Location: Tucson
Department: Arizona Geological Survey: Geologic Extension Service

This individual will work under the guidance of our Extension Service chief to assist the web master in maintaining and improving azgs.az.gov and other Arizona Geological Survey managed websites.
Skill Set: Candidate will have 1-3yrs of both web development and graphics experience.
Web Development
HTML proficient (including a light understanding of CSS, php, and javascript) with a strong working knowledge of web development software: CMS (Joomla, Drupal or similar), client-side FTP, Dreamweaver, and server-side control panel systems (Plesk, CPanel, or similar). Some experience with RSS editors, too.
Experience with the Windows/PC environment and all Microsoft Office products, and with a robust understanding of web browsers and their functionality. The ideal candidate will have a logical understanding of storing and backing up files and related web data (including media: images, video, etc.).
Graphics
ADOBE CS3 or newer (notably Photoshop and Illustrator). Strong understanding of graphics in a web environment: file compression, file format, file format changes. Appropriate use, sizing, and storage of most common file formats including: .jpg, .eps, .pdf, .gif, .tiff, .png, .bmp, and other vector formats. Page layout and design a plus – both in a web environment and for print materials.
Daily Solution Development & Delivery:
- Assists in the design, coding, and testing of technical solutions.
- Understands technical and functional design requirements.
- Assists in backup and maintaining logical file storage.
- Professional communication with internal and outsourced support personnel.
- Attention to detail with a sharp eye for web editing (spelling, coding errors, graphics problems).
Project Execution / Professional Qualities:
- Understands project and development plans and is able to clearly articulate roles, project goals, and timelines.
- Adheres to web/graphic coding standards defined by Arizona State and AZGS.
- Complies with both Arizona State and AZGS policies and procedures.
- Establishes responsible deadlines and personal work plans.
- Prioritizes multiple tasks effectively.
- Works autonomously as well as with a group – even under modest supervision.
- Good communication skills – both written and spoken.
Hours: Ten to 12 hours per week. Flexible work schedule, but must be on site on one afternoon (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday) from about 2-5 p.m.

Pay Range: $10.00 - $13.00 per hour
