The Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) is Arizona’s Earth science agency. We are responsible for mapping, evaluating, and informing the public regarding Arizona’s geologic setting. In order to meet this charge, we employ an interdisciplinary team of educated professionals that includes geologists, hydrologists, geomorphologists, petroleum geologists, natural hazard specialists, GIS specialists, web developers, and science outreach and administrative personnel.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT IIII (Covered Position)
Grade/Salary: Grade 17 / Salary Range $29,949 - $49,561

Individual with State of Arizona administrative experience needed to work in the Finance and Human Resources Areas.
Knowledge: Bookkeeping, including payroll, insurance, accounts payable, inventory, and fixed assets. Must be knowledgeable in State procurement and personnel policies.
Skills: Strong computer skills including State software (HRIS, AFIS). QuickBooks, Excel, Word, Access Database.
Abilities: Must have the ability to stay organized, analyze, prioritize, and multitask. Must be able to handle processing payroll, leave payouts, donated leave, payroll adjustments, and retirement. This is a full-charge bookkeeper position and the candidate will be responsible for bookkeeping (bills, deposits, etc.), as well as the payroll and benefits aspects for a State agency.

GEOLOGIST / GEOMORPHOLOGIST

The Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) seeks to hire one or more geologists with expertise in geomorphology, surficial geologic mapping, Quaternary geology, or environmental geology. Work may be full-time or part-time. The person(s) we hire will be involved in a variety of surficial geologic and geologic hazard/environmental mapping projects in Arizona Work will involve interpretation of aerial photographs, field mapping of surficial deposits and other geomorphic features, description of stratigraphic and soil profiles, and use of simple GPS equipment. Map preparation will involve extensive work in ArcGIS, so familiarity with digital geologic mapping is preferred. The AZGS currently has funding for several projects through September, 2008, and expects continued funding for similar projects in future years. This is part of a growing program in environmental geology at the AZGS.
A bachelor’s degree in geology or related field is required, and an advanced degree or substantial mapping experience is preferred. Salary and classification (Geologist II or Research Geologist) is dependent on qualifications. Full-time positions will include paid benefits. Positions are currently open and will be filled as soon as we find suitable candidates. Work can begin immediately.
